DAY 1 OF THE FES TOUR: FES – IFRANE – AZROU – ZIZ VALLEY – SAHARA DESERT (MERZOUGA)

After leaving the city of Fes, our destination today is the desert of Merzouga. The drive will take us through the mountains of the Middle Atlas, where we can admire beautiful landscapes along the road. In the cedar forest we will have a short break and watch the Berbary monkeys playing. Then we will stop in Ifrane, which is also called the Switzerland of Morocco.

You may want to take some photos before we continue our journey. To reach Merzouga, you will pass through many other villages and towns, including Timhdit, Midelt city, cross the High Atlas Mountains, Errachidia and Erfoud (famous for its fossil industry). Overnight in a hotel near the dunes

How to Spend a Weekend in the Sahara Desert of Merzouga

DAY 2 : EXPLORE MERZOUGA DESERT– CAMEL TREK

Today on the Fez tour program, we lead to explore the area, see the interesting way of life and culture of the people of the Sahar desert.

First we visit the ancient village of Khamlia (village of black people). It is mainly inhabited by people who were originally brought as slaves from Sudan, Senegal and Mali. The nomads here are very nice and friendly and would be happy to share their daily life with you.

The day continues with a visit to old mines near the border between Morocco and Algeria. Then we will drive back to Merzouga where you will have medfouna (also called Berber pizza) for lunch. After a short break, a camel trekking is waiting for you to experience. You will ride on camels, guided by your camel man, towards the Erg Chebbi dunes. It will take you about 1:30 minutes to reach Erg Chebbi. Besides admiring the landscapes of the vast desert, you will probably enjoy taking some nice photos.

One of the most beautiful experiences is the sunset over the highest sand dunes in North Africa. After dinner you will have the opportunity to listen to the drums and music of the Berbers around the campfire.

DAY 3 : MERZOUGA DESERT– TODRA GORGES – DADES VALLEY :

In the morning you will be able to watch the breathtaking sunrise from the high sand dunes. Afterwards you will go back to the village of Merzouga on camels. It is simply fascinating to enjoy the spectacular landscapes on the way back. In Merzouga you will take a shower and have breakfast. Afterwards we continue our tour and explore more places. Via the town of Rissani and the beautiful Tinghir we drive to Todra Gorge. Todra offers not only wonderful views, but also the narrowest and highest gorges in Morocco. This is a good reason to be an attraction for hikers. After lunch and a walk through the rocks we will drive to Dades valley. Overnight stay in a hotel in Dades.

DAY 4 : DADES VALLEY – BOUTAGHRAR – SKOURA – OUARZAZATE

On the 4th day of this tour of Fes we leave the Dades Valley and drive to Ouarzazate, visiting various places and sights along the way.

The journey takes us along the scenic Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Along the road there are wonderful opportunities to take great photos. We also stop to visit the City of Roses in Kalaat M’Gouna, where you may want to buy some good rose water.

The day continues to Skoura where we will take you to visit the Kasbah of Amerdil. After lunch, the journey continues to Ouarzazate. Several Hollywood movies were filmed in this authentic city. You can visit the Atlas Cinema Studios Museum, where you can see props from movies like The Mummy and Gladiator. Overnight in a riad (dinner and breakfast).

DAY 5, the end of the Fes tour : OUARZAZATE – AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH – MARRAKECH :

Marrakech is our final destination today after leaving Ouarzazate. Before that we will visit the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. This fantastic site is the largest and most famous Kasbah in Morocco. It was included in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1987. It has also served as a backdrop for many famous Hollywood movies such as Kingdom of Heaven and Troy.

We will then drive to Marrakech. The High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi N’Tichka Pass are wonderful places that we will pass through thanks to the beautiful and scenic views. Overnight stay in a hotel in Marrakech. 5 Days tour from Fes to Desert end in Marrakech.
