Day 2: Discovering Merzouga – Nomads, Gnaoua Culture & Camel Trek

After a hearty breakfast, spend the day discovering the unique surroundings of Merzouga. We’ll begin with a drive across the desert trails to visit an old kohl mine, a remnant of the region’s mining history. Next, meet local nomadic families living in handmade tents, and enjoy a cup of Berber tea while learning about their traditional lifestyle.

Our journey continues to the village of Khamlia, home to the Gnaoua people—descendants of Sub-Saharan Africans. Enjoy their powerful spiritual music and lively drum performances. After lunch in a local eatery, we’ll take a peaceful stroll through a nearby palm grove before visiting Dayet Srij, the seasonal Merzouga lake often visited by migratory birds like flamingos.

In the late afternoon, switch to camelback for a magical ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes, pausing on a high ridge to admire the sunset over the sands. You’ll arrive at your luxury desert camp in time for dinner, followed by traditional music and storytelling under a sky filled with stars.

Day 3: Merzouga → Rissani → Erfoud → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley

After breakfast, we leave the dunes behind and head for Rissani, once the capital of the Tafilalet region and a key stop on ancient caravan routes. Wander through the town’s bustling souks, especially lively on market days.

We continue to Erfoud, famous for its fossil industries, where you’ll visit a local workshop and see how ancient marine fossils are turned into art and decor. Then the road leads us through the lush palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad toward the awe-inspiring Todra Gorges. These towering red rock cliffs are a favorite spot for hikers and climbers.

After enjoying the gorge and lunch at a local restaurant, we make our way to Dades Valley, passing through Boumalne Dades. Along the route, stop to admire the unusual “Monkey Fingers” rock formations and take in the panoramic views of the winding valley from a hilltop lookout. Dinner and overnight at a local guesthouse or hotel.

Day 4: Dades Valley → Rose Valley → Skoura → Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → Marrakech

On the final day, we journey through the fragrant Rose Valley in Kalaa M’Gouna, known for its annual Rose Festival and locally produced cosmetics and oils. Continuing through the Skoura palm oasis, we reach Ouarzazate, a cinematic hub often referred to as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” If time permits, we’ll tour the Atlas Film Studios, where many Hollywood epics have been filmed.

Our next stop is the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a beautifully preserved fortified ksar that has served as the setting for films like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most iconic photo spots in Morocco.

From here, we cross the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with multiple photo opportunities and a lunch stop along the way. In the late afternoon, we arrive in Marrakech, where your unforgettable Moroccan desert journey concludes with drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
